Jim White, a British journalist and the author of < Manchester United The Biography >, hosted a talk concerning his opinion towards Manchester United for the Harrow Conversation on January 20.
Working for the Daily Telegraph, BBC Radio 4 and BBC5 Live amongst others, Jim White is not only a reporter, but also a life-long supporter of Manchester United. The conversation, which lasted from 1300 to 1400, featured the topic “Manchester United: The rise and possible fall of a great club” and attracted many journalism students and football fans.
“Anyone who has two eyes can see what’s going on the pitch is not success,” Jim White started the conversation pointing out the difficulties facing David Moyes and his coaching team at Old Trafford, difficulties that cannot be solved if Moyes keeps relying on “a 30-year-old Dutch forward”.
When asked about whether United can qualify for the Champions League this season, he answered with a question, “Which teams do you think will for sure qualify for the Champions League this season? Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Who is after them? Liverpool, Spurs, Everton and United. Can you see Liverpool sinking? “
The starting line-up of Manchester United is not as strong as it seems to be. Jim White thinks that is part of the reason why the defending champions are struggling to get into the top 6. As a result, empty seats are beginning to be spotted by cameras at Old Trafford. That’s something rarely happen before.
What could he do if he were David Moyes? Here are the three free tips offered for Jim White:
1. Get a magician to fix Robin van Persie (the Dutch striker has been injured for the past whole month);
2. Keep Rooney;
3. Don’t be affected by the media. Stick to what you are doing now.
The WNOL Sports team interviewed Jim White on his thoughts of the winter transfer window, the performance of David Moyes and his team so far this season, as well as the result of Ballon d’OR. He also provided some suggestions for future sports journalists studying at University of Westminster.
